ELS Team @ KIT Yesterday, the ELS team visited its colleagues at the Lighting Institute of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) We were received by Prof. Dr. Cornelius Neumann, Head of Optical Technologies in Automotive & General Lighting Technology Department. This was the opportunity to draw the conclusions of the European study that we have just completed in common but also to take stock of our various theses in progress and meet Max Baumann, PhD student. ELS 2019/20 Session 5th day ! In the morning, ELS students were invited in AL Automotive Lighting Rear Lamps France in Trappes. A Mouchon, R&D Director presented the activities of AL Then, the AL Team, A Sornin, Optical Manager, D Mercier, Engineering Lighting Design Manager, F Chesneau, Design Validation Manager, M Cyganek, Electronics Design Manager explained how Project Lifecycle, Development Process, etc… work. 4th day: all about Autonomous Vehicles! In the morning, let’s start with the theoretical portion! Vincent JUDALET (ESTACA @ VEDECOM) made a deep dive in the Autonomous Vehicle scope, including – of course- the Lighting activity, with the trend to Road Projections. In the afternoon, ELS Students were invited on VEDECOM location in Satory, close to Versailles. We were hosted by Fethi B. Ouezdou, Scientific Director of VEDECOM. 3rd day of the “Welcome Week” with the visit of PSA in Velizy, organized by Dr. Whilk GONCAVES, Lighting Expert in PSA Groupe. First, we had the chance to have a presentation of the new lighting functionalities implemented on new PSA vehicles – such as DS 7, Electric DS 3 and new 208 but also new 2008! The 2nd day of the 1st week started with a visit to Renault Technocentre, driven by Francois BEDU, Lighting Expert in Renault. Students had the opportunity to discover: The photometry room, allowing them to compare new Captur real headlamp, mock-up and simulation The benchmark room The night drive simulator, HELIOS The C.A.V.E etc… They also met alumni of ELS there, Amanda VIERA-FERNANDES, Tarek BELLA et Valère CALAIS, working now at Renault.

This week, DNV released their newest Report on the state of evolution in vehicle lighting regulations around the world.
